Having been born and raised in the area now called the Limpopo Province, I was, from a very early age, made aware of the rich cultural diversity of the area. Later I studied in the Netherlands where I was brought into contact with European culture. This formed my thirst for art in all its many different forms. My main area of interest for my own art was in photography and in particular: Fine Art Photography. After many years of living in Johannesburg and fine tuning my eye and intellect towards the still visual image, I returned to Limpopo in the early 1990’s. As I had been involved for some time in the recording of San rock art in the Soutpansberg, the Limpopo valley, and the Makgabeng, I seriously increased my output in that project on my return to Limpopo. For many years now, I have also been involved in the recording of traditional dance, music and art of the peoples of Limpopo and further afield. It is this interest that led me to photographing the Domba dance of the Venda people.
